Arnold Dumbbell Press Weight Lifting Exercise
For The Shoulders
The arnold press is a fantastic exercise for the shoulders and i always include it into my workout.
As the name suggests this exercise was developed by Arnold Schwarzenegger. Possibly not invented by him but it was made popular by him.
The purpose of this exercise is to develop the front head of the deltoid muscle. This is the best shoulder exercise i know and i always include it into my shoulder routine. By lowering the dumbbells to the front you get an incredible strength and great range of motion.
This exercise can be done either standing or sitting.
Start position: Position dumbbells to ear level with an overhand grip (palms facing back).
Press hands up and out laterally above head keeping wrists over the elbows and arms moving parallel to body at all times.
Rotate hand during movement so that your palms are back facing forward at the top of the movement.
Return to start position.
Remember to keep back and head straight in a neutral position - hyperextension or excessive flexion may cause injury.
Repeat with other arm.
Don't get so concerned with pressing the weight overhead that you begin to sway and cheat. Perfect form is essential for getting the most out of the arnold dumbbell press. This movement should be done strictly with the dumbbells under full control. Don't lock the arms out at the top of the movement, this will keep your shoulders pumped the whole time.
