The best cardio exercise for burning fat is interval training. Interval training is often referred to up and down training, and has many other names. Interval training by far is the best way to burn fat and get a flat stomach in a short period of time. Only 20minutes of interval training will burn as many calories as running for around an hour.
Cardio workouts are indispensable to an effective training program and general good health. By definition, cardio workouts can be any exercise�jogging, running, biking, swimming, elliptical machine, stairs, even jumping rope�that raises and maintains your heart rate over a predetermined amount of time. By doing so, you strengthen your heart and lungs and lower your resting heart rate, which means that over time the same effort that produced a 10-minute mile will produce a 9-minute mile.
The best cardio exercise and my favorite for interval training is running.
20 Minute interval training example
Warm up the first 2 minutes at Intensity Level 5
Minutes 2-3 move from Intensity Level 5 to 6
Minutes 4-5, 6-10 and 11-14 work your way from Intensity Level 6 to Level 9, maintain for one minute.
Minutes 15-19 work your way from Intensity Level 6 to Level 10 (High Point at Level 10), maintain for one minute.
Minute 20 cool down to Intensity Level 5 for one minute.
This is important
The intensity level is YOUR intensity level not your friends or workout buddy but yours. A 10 is the maximum 100% effort pace you can do and a 5 is half that. This takes a bit of time getting used to it but after a couple of sessions you will get the hang of it.

' Interval training' is defined as repetitions of high-speed/intensity work followed by periods (the periods that are the actual intervals) of rest or low activity.
For example:
If you were running for 10minutes you would do something similar to the following
Minutes 1-5 Jogging about 50% of your MAXIMUM effort Minute 6 Running 90% of your MAXIMUM effort Minute 7 Jogging about 50% of your MAXIMUM effort Minute 8 Running 90% of your MAXIMUM effort Minute 9 Jogging about 50% of your MAXIMUM effort Minute 10 Running 100% of your MAXIMUM effort Warm Down with a slow jog
Please note this is just an example and there are lots of different variations for interval training you could simply do 30secs running 30secs jogging then repeat until the 10 minutes is up.

The best thing about interval training is that 20 minutes of intense training burns more calories then over an hour of jogging.
