How To Get Rid of Love Handles

Love handles is what people call the excess fat deposits around your waist, specifically on your sides (obliques). You do not have to be 'fat' and have love handles.

Legend has it they get their name because they provide a soft place to rest one's hand while one's arm is around a person, or perhaps because they can serve as places to hold on while having relations.

Who knows how they got their name and who cares.

Fat deposits on your sides can be tough to get rid of and normal sit ups simply wont cut it when it comes to directly working the obliques.

To work the oblique muscles and gradually firm and burn that unwanted fat you need to do movements which work your sides, these include sit bends and twist sit ups.

If you really want to shift your love handles and fat from other parts of your body then you need to look at your diet and get it in order. Dieting dosnt need to be difficult and the word diet often puts people off but if you want to get that sexy firm flat ab look you are going to need to cut out the junk food.


Below are my favourite exercises for working the obliques.


Oblique Crunch

1. Start by placing your left foot over your right knee and place your hands behind your head.

2. Lift your shoulders up off the ground and twist so that your right elbows tries to touch your left knee.

3. Return to the starting position and repeat according to the required repetitions.

4. Repeat with the other side.

Perform your reps in strict movement really focusing on squeezing your abs as they contract. This is a great exercise for melting away those love handles.



Lying Side Crunch

1) Lie with back on floor or bench with knees bent.

2) Start position: Let your knees fall to the right so that your hips are somewhat rotated.

3) Leading with the chin and left shoulder, contract abdominal muscles and raise left shoulder off floor or bench towards left knee.

4) Return to start position. Repeat with other side.

5) Remember to keep head and neck in neutral position throughout movement. Do not twist excessively - elbow does not need to touch knee.

This exercise targets each side individually and lets you really focus on the movement.


 

Dumbbell Side Bends

1) Stand with your feet about shoulder width apart.

2) Hold a dumbbell in each hand.

3) Laterally bend your torso to the side and then repeat to the other side.

Return to starting position.

This exercise can be done by holding a dumbbell, weight plate or any object really. You can increase the weight as you progress.


The above 3 exercises directly work the love handles and will help tone and firm them.

If you are holding excess weight then you need to have a calorie controlled diet and exercise regulary.

The key to losing fat is to burn more calories then you consume.

Perform 3 sets of 10 reps of each of these exercises at first then slowly increase the number of reps after each week.

Perform this workout 3 times a week.


Go from one exercise to another without rest


Rest 40seconds aftre the first circuit then repeat.


Any movement that involves twisting the upper body or lower body will generally have an effect on your love handles. If you want simple exercises then you can try some side bends or similar.
